This is a group show where several local art groups combine to make lively mixed show for four days, right in the heart of Brighton.

As we move towards the ending of lockdown, SSP is happy to announce that we will be participating in two new exhibitions.

The first will be with the Brighton and Hove Arts Council exhibition in July 2021, along with members of other local art societies, and the second will be the exhibition postponed from last year at the Fishing Quarter Gallery on Brighton seafront.

The dates for the FQG are from 24th September to 3rd October 2021.

We are sad to announce the recent death of our SSP member, Zan Stevenson. Her colourful landscapes have been enjoyed and admired for many years, and she will be greatly missed by her friends and patrons. In the past year we have also lost Anthony Morgan Jones, watercolour painter and formerly our treasurer, also sadly missed

In June 2020 SSP was due to show an exhibition of new works, entitled 20/20, Perfect Vision, at the Fishing Quarter Gallery in Brighton.

However the Covid 19 virus put a stop to that, so we are showing an online exhibition of recent work on the page entitled Lockdown Paintings.

2014 was the 90th anniversary year of this Society and we celebrated it with a big exhibition at Worthing Museum and Art Gallery in July, followed by another exhibition at the Laughing Dog Gallery, The Octagon, Brighton Marina, from Friday 17th to Friday 31st October 2014.

The Society consists of mainly professionally trained artists who are selling their work. However selling their work is not the only criterion. We also wish to encourage relevant work, which reflects the world we live in, and is innovative and original. We use our exhibitions as a show case for the exchange of ideas and we aim to facilitate the development of new work which can be traditional or contemporary.

All work must be of a high professional standard and integrity. To that end, since the start of the Society in 1924, it has always believed that drawing with competence and understanding should be evident in at least two pieces of finished work out of the six pieces which are brought to the selection meeting by prospective members.

Former members of the Society have included such distinguished artists as Glynn Philpott, George Hooper, Charles Morris, Charles Knights, Dorothy Coke, Luther Roberts, Joseph di Guiseppe and Sam Fenton. Membership of the Society now stands at about thirty and we hold one or two exhibitions in different parts of Sussex each year. We welcome new members.

Our 90th anniversary exhibition at Worthing was a great success, appreciated by the many visitors, and especially by the Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Vic Walker, who welcomed us warmly.
